The Ministry of Education has decided to commence extensive investigations in to several incidents where funds were obtained citing various reasons when admitting students to Grade one.

Secretary to the Ministry of education Anura Dissanayake said that the Ministry should be informed of such incidents noting that officers attached to a special investigative unit of the ministry and officials of the internal audit unit would investigate into these claims.

The Secretary said that information has been revealed that when admitting students to schools through alumni associations and school development societies, parents are charged unnecessarily.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Education further noted that  following investigations into the complaints made, the Ministry will provide the maximum punishment to offenders.
