The price of big onions in the market has rapidly increased. Consumers charge that the price of a kilogramme of big onions has increased to Rs.210.

Three weeks ago the price of one kilogramme of big onions was between Rs.100 and Rs.110.

When Newsfirst inquired into the matter from the Secretary of the Trade Association of the Dambulla Economic Trade Centre I.G.Wijenanda, he said that the harvesting of the local onions has commenced. He noted that the price has been influenced by a scarcity of big onions in India.

When Newsfirst inquired about the situation from the Deputy Minister of Consumer Affairs and Internal Trade, Hemal Gunasekara, he said that discussions will be held on Tuesday with farmers and traders in this regard.
