COLOMBO(News1st); Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, has been admitted to the Cardiology Unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.
Prisons Spokesperson Senaka Pallethanne says that she was admitted to the Cardiology Unit of the Colombo National Hospital based on the recommendations of the Prison Hospital doctors.
Meanwhile, the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court today rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by Shiranthi Rajapaksa, which requested an order to release her on anticipatory bail in the event of her arrest.
Maligakanda Magistrate Janitha Perera ordered that the relevant anticipatory bail application be filed in the appropriate court jurisdiction.
An investigation is underway against suspect Shiranthi Rajapaksa regarding the alleged criminal misappropriation of Rs. 10 million credited to the 'Siriliya Saviya' account by the National Savings Bank in 2010, following a written request made by her claiming it was to acquire a CT scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.
The anticipatory bail application had been filed on the 5th, seeking an order to release her on anticipatory bail if arrested in connection with this matter.
When the petition was called today, Senior State Counsel Samadari Priyasena, appearing for the Attorney General, stated that the court had no jurisdiction to consider the anticipatory bail application.
The Senior State Counsel pointed out that since the facts regarding the incident had been reported to the Fort Magistrate's Court, the petitioner had no ability to request anticipatory bail in this court for a case pending before the Fort Magistrate's Court.
Taking the facts into consideration, the Magistrate ordered the rejection of the anticipatory bail application.
