Wimal Weerawansa Summoned Over Contempt of Court Probe

COLOMBO (News1st);Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa has been summoned to appear before the Central Crime Investigation Bureau this coming Friday.

The summons is to record a statement regarding an ongoing investigation into whether a statement he made during a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) rally in Anuradhapura on the 12th concerning the remanding of Namal Rajapaksa amounts to contempt of court.

Police recently reported facts on the matter to the Colombo Magistrate's Court No. 01.

During the hearing, the court ordered that unedited footage of the speech be obtained from the relevant media channels. Police stated that this footage has now been secured.

This investigation is being conducted in accordance with an order issued by the court to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
