Minister Warns of Drugs Spreading Across Schools

COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala says around 70% of inmates currently held in prisons face charges related to drugs.

The Minister said approximately 40,000 inmates are currently in prison in connection with such drug related offenses. 

Minister Wijepala noted that drug pills have spread across not only to schools in Colombo but also to schools in rural areas.

He said a special programme has been launched to prevent the spread of drugs in schools. 

The Minister made these remarks while attending an event held at Kobeigane National School.
