Namal Rajapaksa Remanded Following CIABOC Arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa has been remanded until 18 September by court, after being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The arrest was made in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged bribery incident linked to a transaction involving the purchase of wide-body aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.

Rajapaksa appeared before the Bribery Commission today (4) to provide a statement regarding the matter after a request to obtain an alternative date for his appearance was rejected by the Commission.

Although the Commission had initially instructed him to appear on September 4, Rajapaksa had reportedly inquired whether he could instead appear on September 3.

However, the Bribery Commission informed him that he was required to appear before the Commission on September 4 as originally scheduled.

The Commission had also notified him that legal action would be taken in accordance with the law if he failed to appear on the specified date.

Following his appearance before the Commission, Namal Rajapaksa was arrested and subsequently produced before court, where he was remanded until September 18 in connection with the ongoing investigation.
