Sri Lanka To Support Nepal With USD 1M Assistance

COLOMBO (News 1st): Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment said that Sri Lanka will provide US$1 million in humanitarian assistance to Nepal following the devastating floods and landslides. 

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed the Government to make the financial contribution to support Nepal’s ongoing humanitarian and relief efforts. 

Expressing his deep sorrow over the loss of lives and suffering caused by the disaster, President Dissanayake conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Government and people of Sri Lanka to the Government and people of Nepal, particularly to families who have lost loved ones.

Recalling the longstanding bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two nations, the President emphasized that Sri Lanka stands firmly with the people of Nepal during this difficult time.

The financial assistance will support immediate relief and humanitarian efforts for communities affected by the floods and landslides.

Earlier today, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath spoke with his Nepalese counterpart, Shisir Khanal, conveying Sri Lanka’s condolences, support and solidarity with Nepal.

The Government of Sri Lanka said it will remain closely engaged with the Government of Nepal and continue to explore appropriate avenues to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
