COLOMBO (News 1st); A court has ordered a comprehensive examination of all bank accounts linked to alleged major drug trafficker Shiran Basik, who is currently being held under a 90-day detention order.
According to the order, the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka will conduct a review of his financial accounts following submissions made by investigating officers before court.
Meanwhile, a separate inquiry into his wealth and properties is being conducted under the supervision of the Illegal Assets Investigation Division.
Police said information uncovered during questioning has revealed details relating to five hotels allegedly owned by Basik in Colombo's Marine Drive area.
Shiran Basik, who had fled Sri Lanka and was reportedly hiding in Dubai, was arrested by authorities in the United Arab Emirates before being deported to Sri Lanka.
He was brought back to the island on August 14, after which multiple investigations were launched into his alleged criminal activities, financial dealings and asset portfolio.
