COLOMBO (News 1st); The Registrar General's Department has announced the commencement of issuing digital death certificates.
Under the e-Population Register Programme, these operations are currently implemented in the Kalutara District.
Accordingly, death certificates are now being issued through a computer-based database, replacing the previously used handwritten certificates.
The issuance of death certificates through a digital system enables authorities to maintain an updated personal data system, facilitates efficient data exchange between institutions, and ensures information security through secure data storage.
Each death certificate issued under the new system carries a special QR code, allowing anyone to quickly verify its authenticity through the digital platform.
These certificates are printed on specialised paper embedded with security features.
