Two police teams have been appointed to investigate the death of former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne.
The teams, from the Malabe Police and the Nugegoda Special Crimes Division, are conducting investigations into the incident.
Police said the magisterial inquest into the former IGP’s death has been completed, while the post-mortem examination is currently underway.
C.D. Wickramaratne had died after shooting himself with a 9mm firearm belonging to his security officer at his residence in Thalahena at around 7.15 this morning.
Police Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler said the body has been placed at the Mulleriyawa Hospital.
Police said that the gunshot injury was to the chest area.
According to police, the former IGP had asked his security officer to bring a bottle of water, and while the officer was away getting the water, he had shot himself.
