Special Waste Management Plan Introduced For Poson Week In Anuradhapura

COLOMBO (News 1st): A special waste management program was introduced in Anuradhapura for the Poson week.

Chairman of the National Poson Committee and Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya said waste disposal bags will be distributed to motorists travelling on the four main roads leading to the sacred city of Anuradhapura.

These bags will be used to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.

A system has also been put in place to collect the waste bags on the return journey from Anuradhapura.

The District Secretary said that the initiative was taken in view of the nearly 500 metric tons of waste that accumulated in Anuradhapura during last year’s Poson season.

He added that all necessary facilities have been arranged for devotees visiting Anuradhapura during the Poson season.

The Poson week will begin on June 26 and continue until July 2.
