COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombia produced a commanding performance to defeat Uzbekistan 3-1 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group K opening clash, showcasing attacking quality and composure to secure all three points in a competitive encounter.

The South American side asserted early control of the match, dominating possession and pushing forward with intent against a disciplined Uzbekistan defence making its World Cup debut.

Colombia broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, when Daniel Muñoz found the net with a clinical finish following an assist from Luis Díaz, giving his side a deserved lead before halftime.

Uzbekistan responded strongly in the second half and made history as Abbosbek Fayzullaev scored the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal in the 60th minute, levelling the match at 1-1 and igniting hope among their supporters.

However, Colombia quickly regained control just minutes later. Luis Díaz restored the lead in the 65th minute, finishing confidently after a well-worked move, underlining his influence on the match.

Despite Uzbekistan’s determined efforts to mount another comeback, Colombia maintained their attacking pressure and defensive stability as the game entered its final stages.

The victory was sealed deep into stoppage time when Jáminton Campaz added a third goal in the 90+9 minute, heading home to put the result beyond doubt and secure a convincing 3-1 win.
