COLOMBO (News 1st); No decision has been taken at this stage to arrest or detain former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Waruna Jayasundara under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), the Attorney General informed the Court of Appeal today.

The update was conveyed when a writ petition filed by Jayasundara was taken up before court.

The former Deputy Inspector General had sought judicial intervention to prevent his possible arrest and detention in connection with ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath told the court that, based on the facts currently before investigators, there is no readiness or intention to arrest or detain the petitioner under the PTA at this time.

The Court of Appeal, after taking note of the submissions, scheduled the petition to be taken up again on June 17 for further consideration.
