Draft Regulations on Elders’ Homes to Be Presented to Parliament

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Secretariat for Elders says an islandwide survey on elders’ homes will be conducted on the 15th of June.

The survey will be conducted as information have been received regarding unregistered elders’ homes operating across the country. 

Director of the National Secretariat for Elders, K. Chathura Mihidum said attention will also be given during the survey to identifying persons under the age of 50 with disabilities residing in elders’ homes, and exploring mechanisms to relocate them to suitable alternative facilities.

He further explained that the draft of the guidelines and regulations on elder's homes is expected to be submitted to Parliament and gazetted in the near future.
