COLOMBO (News 1st): A suspect has been arrested after eight years on suspicion of abducting and causing the disappearance of a retired army soldier who was residing in the Narangaspitiya area of Kirindiwela. Police stated that the arrested individual is a 47-year-old resident of the Ranpokunugama area in Nittambuwa.
The police have taken into custody a small, foreign-made firearm shaped like a pen, along with five rounds of ammunition used for it, which were found in the suspect's possession. Additionally, four rounds of T-56 ammunition, eight rounds of 9mm ammunition, and two rounds of 12-bore ammunition were also seized by the police.
An investigation into this incident, which occurred in the year 2018, was initiated by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department following a complaint received by the Inspector General of Police.
Further investigations are being conducted by the officers of the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
