Post-Mortems Conducted on Seven Victims of Anguruwathota Elder's Home Fire

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The bodies of six victims who died in the fire at elder's home in Batagoda, Anguruwathota, have been transferred to the Morgue of the Teaching Hospital in Nagoda, Kalutara.

Police said that seven bodies remain at the Horana Hospital.

Post-mortem examinations have so far been conducted on seven of the victims.

According to Police, the deceased elderly residents except for two bodies have been identified by their relatives.

Authorities say that any bodies not claimed by relatives will be laid to rest at State expense after 14 days.

The fire, which broke out on June 3, claimed the lives of 13 people and left five others injured.

Investigations so far have revealed that the elder's care home had been operating without official registration.

Meanwhile, the director of the institution has been remanded pending further legal proceedings.
