COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health states that the rapid spread of dengue has been driven by Cyclone Ditwah
Its Acting Director, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, noted that 35,300 dengue cases have been reported within the past 5 months alone.
He further explained that the floods triggered by Cyclone Ditwah have led to the proliferation of dengue mosquito breeding sites.
In light of this rapid spread, he announced that a special dengue control program will be implemented over a three-day period from the 8th, 9th, and 10th of June
Dr. Kapila Kannangara added that police assistance will be sought to inspect abandoned plots of land.
