Four Police Constables Suspended Over Drug Use Allegations

COLOMBO (News 1st): Four police constables attached to the Ambalangoda and Ahungalla Police Stations have been suspended from duty after tests confirmed drug use.

The suspended officers include three constables from the Ambalangoda Police Station and one from the Ahungalla Police Station.

The action follows information received by police alleging that a group of officers were using drugs. 

Based on the tip-off, nine constables attached to the Ambalangoda, Ahungalla, Bentota and Elpitiya Police Stations were produced before the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) at the Elpitiya Base Hospital for examination.

According to the JMO’s findings, four of the officers tested positive for drug use.

Following the report, the Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the Ambalangoda Division suspended the four constables from duty.

A senior police officer stated that a preliminary investigation will now be conducted, after which disciplinary action will be taken against the officers concerned.
