Elephant Corridors To Be Gazetted Amid Human-Elephant Conflicts

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Environment has taken steps to declare 03 more elephant corridors in order to mitigate the human-elephant conflict.

Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody stated that, accordingly, three routes are scheduled to be declared as elephant corridors: the route used by wild elephants traveling from the Hambantota Wild Elephant Management Reserve to Bundala, the route from the Wadahitakanda Elephant Management Reserve to the Udawalawe National Park, and the route via Hadapanagala to Demodara.

These elephant corridors are scheduled to be officially gazetted in the near future.

Furthermore, houses and cultivated paddy lands currently located within these elephant corridors are also scheduled to be removed.
