COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Health says that the fever condition reported from several areas of the island has been identified as meningitis.
Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, stated that spinal fluid tests carried out on the reported patients have revealed that the majority of those affected are children.
Fever, headache, vomiting and nausea, stiffness around the neck, and difficulty in exposing oneself to sunlight have been identified as symptoms of meningitis.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, stated that the condition is transmitted through close contacts, drinking water, and touch.
To date, more than 100 patients have been identified from Deniyaya, Diyatalawa, Kurunegala, and Kandy.
Furthermore, the Secretary stated that the public should not entertain undue fear regarding the meningitis disease.
He also expressed that to prevent the disease, people should drink boiled, cooled water, wear face masks, and avoid staying in crowded places where people gather.
