Police Detain 21 Deported Suspects Tied to Organised Crime

COLOMBO (News 1st); A group of 21 suspects linked to organised criminal activities has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake after being deported to Sri Lanka from Dubai, police said.

Among those taken into custody are six individuals who had previously been accused of various offences.

The suspects are alleged to have been involved in crimes including drug trafficking, shootings and murders, fraud, criminal breach of trust and assault.

Police stated that the group had initially arrived in Sri Lanka on a flight that was diverted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport due to adverse weather conditions earlier today.

The arrests were made after the same flight later proceeded to Katunayake, where authorities detained the suspects upon arrival.

Investigations into the suspects and their alleged criminal links are currently underway, police added.
