COLOMBO (News 1st); Following considerable rainfall recorded across most catchment areas as of 5:00 AM today, the Irrigation Department has issued an urgent flood warning for low-lying areas of the Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys, warning that a flood situation could develop within the next 48 hours.

Analyzing current rainfall trends and rising river water levels at hydrological stations, authorities have put residents and motorists on high alert across nine Divisional Secretariat (D/S) divisions—including Diwulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-ela, Katana, and Wattala—as there is a high probability of road inundation at various points.

In response to the imminent threat, both residents and vehicle drivers traveling through these low-line valleys are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution, while Disaster Management Authorities have been requested to take immediate and adequate precautions to ensure public safety.
