Weerawansa Ordered to Appear Before Thalangama Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): Former National Freedom Front Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa has been ordered to appear before the Thalangama Police tomorrow, following an incident that took place near the War Heroes Memorial close to the Parliament grounds.

According to police, the Officer-in-Charge of the Thalangama Police Station has instructed Weerawansa to report to the station in order to record a statement in connection with the incident.

The alleged incident occurred on the 18th, when Weerawansa, along with a group of individuals, is said to have entered the area near the memorial and used criminal force against police officers who were on duty at the time.

Police further stated that Weerawansa has been informed that failure to appear before the authorities as instructed will result in legal action being initiated against him at the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.
