COLOMBO (News 1st) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has held bilateral discussions with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper during her official visit to London.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by the United Kingdom towards Sri Lanka’s rebuilding and recovery efforts following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya also appreciated the UK’s contribution towards strengthening bilateral trade and export activities between the two countries.
She further briefed British diplomats on Sri Lanka’s recent economic progress, key policy priorities, the government’s commitment to promoting human rights and reconciliation, as well as the country’s positive economic trajectory.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Division, both sides also exchanged views on current global geopolitical developments, challenges in the energy sector, and the importance of strengthening regional connectivity and long-term energy security.
The Prime Minister departed for the United Kingdom to attend the 43rd Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Board of Governors Meeting 2026.
