COLOMBO (News 1st); The low-pressure area located to the northeast of Sri Lanka is likely to move nearly northwards over the next few days, with its influence expected to prolong the prevailing rainy conditions across the island.

According to the weather forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts. In other parts of the country, showers or thundershowers are expected after 1.00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres is likely at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Uva provinces, in addition to the Ampara, Batticaloa, Galle and Matara districts.

The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimise potential damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers, as unsettled weather conditions are set to continue in the coming days.
