New Audit Service Commission Members Take Oath Of Secrecy

COLOMBO (News 1st); Four newly appointed members of the Audit Service Commission took the oath of secrecy before the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, at Parliament on May 4.

Those who took the oath as new members of the Audit Service Commission were former Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe, former Deputy Auditor General G. Thevagnanan, retired Court of Appeal Judge Nihal Sunil Rajapaksa, and retired public service officer Ratna Deshapriya.

The oath of secrecy was administered in accordance with Section 9 of the National Audit Act, No. 19 of 2018.

Under the act, members are required to swear that they will maintain the utmost secrecy of all information given, stated, discussed or otherwise obtained in the course of performing their official duties.

Such information must not be disclosed, discussed or shared in any form, publicly or privately, except when required by a court of law, by Parliament, or as specified under written law, subject to Section 9(b) of the National Audit Act.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairperson of the Audit Service Commission and Auditor General, Samudika Jayaratne, Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera, Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, Director of Legislative Services M. Jayalath Perera, and several other officials.
