COLOMBO (News 1st); Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Beijing on Tuesday (5) for high-level talks with his Chinese counterpart focusing on bilateral relations and regional developments, according to reports in local media.

The visit forms part of Tehran’s broader diplomatic outreach to key international partners. Araghchi’s agenda includes discussions on mutual cooperation as well as regional and international issues, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement.

The China visit follows Araghchi’s travel to Russia last Monday as part of a wider diplomatic tour that also included Pakistan and Oman. During his Moscow visit, Araghchi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and also met with his Russian counterpart.

The diplomatic engagements come amid heightened regional tensions following the commencement of US-Israeli aggression against Iran on February 28, an escalation that Iranian officials say resulted in the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and several senior military commanders.

In the wake of the conflict, Iran closed the strategic Strait of Hormuz to adversary nations and their allies. On April 8, forty days into the war, a temporary ceasefire brokered by Pakistan came into force. Subsequent negotiations were held in Islamabad but failed to reach an agreement, amid what Iran described as maximalist demands and inflexible positions taken by the United States.

Meanwhile, the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports, a move Tehran has condemned as illegal and a violation of the ceasefire terms. In response, Iran has asserted control over the Strait of Hormuz and is denying passage to vessels belonging to the United States and its allies.

Tehran has submitted proposals to Washington aimed at securing a permanent resolution to the war, but these have reportedly been rejected by the White House, which has continued to issue military threats against Iran.
