COLOMBO (News 1st) - The official welcome ceremony for President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who arrived in the island yesterday, is being held this morning at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Presidential Media Division (PMD) stated that the President of Maldives is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake regarding the further strengthening of long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are set to be signed reflecting a mutual commitment to expanding cooperation across various sectors, during president Dr.Muizzu's visit.
President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the delegation will also participate in a special business forum scheduled to be held in Colombo.
President Muizzu is accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Foreign Minister of Maldives, several senior Cabinet Ministers, and high-ranking officials representing Maldives.
The visit marks Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s first visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office in 2023.
Meanwhile, a special traffic plan is in effect until the 06th of May - day after tomorrow in Colombo and routes surrounding Katunayake Expressway due to the President Muizzu's visit.
Police have stated that traffic movement on specific routes will be restricted intermittently.
Drivers are advised to use alternative routes during this period to avoid delays.
