President of Maldives to Arrive in Sri Lanka Today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - President of Maldives Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today for an official visit, following an invitation from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

This marks his first visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office in 2023. 

During the visit, President Muizzu will hold bilateral discussions with President Dissanayake inview of strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries. 

Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are also expected to be signed during the visit reflecting a mutual commitment to expanding cooperation across several sectors. 

President of Maldives will be accompanied by the First Lady, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and several senior Cabinet Ministers.

In light of the visit of the President of Maldives a special traffic plan will be implemented in Colombo and Katunayake areas from this afternoon. 

Police stated that traffic flow will be restricted intermittently along his travel routes from this afternoon until May 6th. 

Drivers are advised to use alternative routes during this period.

A delegation led by Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko is also scheduled to arrive today for a three-day official visit. 

They are set to hold discussions with the Minister of Health and Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese President To Lam is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on May 7th for an official visit and will remain in the country until May 9th.
