Global Walk for Peace Reaches Day Six: Concludes at Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya Today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Walk for Peace in the Island of Peace led by the Venerable Pannakara Thera of Vietnam and Maha Sangha spreading the message of peace to all corners of the island, reaches it's Sixth day today (27). 

The Global Walk for Peace commenced this morning from the Yakkala Abhayasekararamaya and is currently heading towards the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya. 

The Global Walk For Peace In The Island Of Peace is being held at the request of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The Maharaja Media Network is the Official Media and Coordination Partner for the Sri Lankan chapter of the Global Walk for Peace.

The Venerable Maha Sangha, led by Ven. Pannakara Thero, concluded the fifth day of the 'Walk For Peace' at the Abeysekhararamaya in Yakkala last evening, covering a distance of 33 kilometres from the Tholangamuwa Central College.

Thousands of people gathered along the roadsides to pay their respects to the Maha Sangha as they continued their journey in the "Island of Peace."

The Walk for Peace continued through Pasyala and Nittambuwa.

Proceeding through Thihariya and Kalagedihena, the Maha Sangha reached Abeysekhararamaya in Yakkala last evening. 

The Global Walk for Peace in the Island of Peace will conclude tomorrow with a series of high-profile events. 

The Walk for Peace will depart from Kelaniya and is expected to arrive at the Independence Square in Colombo by 
4:00 PM.

In a significant diplomatic gesture, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will officially hand over a sacred sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to the delegation of monks who arrived from the United States for Global Walk for Peace in the Island of Peace. 

Following the ceremony, a colorful procession will move from Independence Square, passing the Maharaja Media Network headquarters, and conclude at the Gangaramaya Temple, marking the official end of the Walk for Peace. 

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, confirmed that special traffic arrangements are in place to facilitate the event.
