22 Individuals in Robes Appeared to be Monks Arrested With Over Rs. 1.1 Billion Worth of Kush and Hashish

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) have arrested 22 individuals dressed in robes who appeared to be monks at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for smuggling a massive haul of Kush and Hashish varieties valued at over Rs. 1.1 Billion.

The suspects, arriving from Thailand, were intercepted by narcotics officers based on intelligence received.

Upon inspection of their luggage, authorities discovered over 110 kilograms of narcotics. 

Each individual was allegedly carrying more than 5 kilograms of drugs.

The drugs were hidden inside false compartments of suitcases, concealed alongside school supplies and food. 

The suspects are currently in the custody of the Police Narcotics Bureau and are scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court for legal proceedings.
