Ex-MP Kathriarachchi Taken Into Custody as T56 Ammo Found at Residence

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Member of Parliament Chandana Kathriarachchi has been arrested by the Colombo Crime Division following the discovery of firearms-related items at his residence in Piliyandala, police said.

Police Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wootler stated that the arrest was made based on information received regarding the presence of firearms. Acting on that information, officers conducted a search of Kathriarachchi’s residence.

During the search, police recovered two T56 magazines, 221 rounds of T56 ammunition, and an additional stock of ammunition, ASP Wootler said.

Following his arrest, Chandana Katriarachchi is due to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court.
