COLOMBO (News 1st); China has called for a permanent ceasefire and sustained dialogue between parties involved in the Middle East conflict, highlighting a newly issued five‑point initiative jointly proposed by China and Pakistan, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong has said.
The Ambassador noted that the initiative, announced several days ago, is built around three core principles that can be summed up in three words: ceasefire, talk, and ensure. These principles, he said, are intended to guide efforts toward stability and lasting peace.
Emphasising the importance of ending hostilities, Ambassador Qi said a ceasefire is a positive and necessary first step. “The ceasefire is a beginning, it is good,” he said. However, he stressed that such efforts must go beyond temporary arrangements.
The Chinese Ambassador called on relevant parties to honour their commitments, urging them to move from short‑term ceasefires to a permanent ceasefire.
China hopes that all concerned parties will remain true to their promises, ensuring that ceasefire agreements are not merely temporary pauses but a foundation for long‑term stability, Ambassador Qi added.
