Special Transport Plan in Place for New Year Holiday

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has announced that special bus service plan will commence today to accommodate the general public traveling to their hometowns for the festive season.

SLTB Chairman Sajeeva Kanakaratne stated that nearly 1,500 additional buses have been deployed based on passenger demand.

He also noted that services at the expressway will see a significant increase in additional buses.

All SLTB buses scheduled for festive travel have undergone a special safety inspection to ensure passenger security.

Simultaneously, the Department of Railways will commence special train runs for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year starting today. 

Railway Spokesperson Asanka Samarasinghe stated that special services for outbound travel will run from today until April 12.

A dedicated schedule from April 15 to 20 will cater to those returning to cities from home. 

Additional train trips have been added to the Galle, Matara, Puttalam, and Avissawella lines targeting the expected surge in passengers traveling from Colombo to destinations including Matara, Galle, Puttlam, Mahawa, and Rambukkana.
