COLOMBO (News 1st) - An unauthorized party has been allegedly obtaining personal information from the public via the official hotline of the Department for Registration of Persons (DRP).
The Department stated that sensitive information is being solicited through the hotline number 0115 22 61 26 and via WhatsApp messages.
Authorities clarified that departmental officials do not use the hotline number to place outgoing calls to the general public.
The DRP has urged citizens to remain vigilant and refrain from providing any personal details to such callers.
Meanwhile, operations at the Department for Registration of Persons have been restricted once again due to a technical fault in its computer system.
As a result, only the one-day service for the issuance of National Identity Cards (NICs) will be available today at the head office and all provincial offices.
All other routine services remain temporarily suspended.
The Department noted that work to restore the system has already commenced.
A formal announcement regarding the resumption of full services will be made once the system is back online.
Notably, a similar breakdown in the department's computer system occurred just a few weeks ago, causing significant disruptions.
