China Support Needed For Ocean Management

COLOMBO(News 1st); Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Rathna Gamage, says that cooperation with countries like China for ocean management is a timely need.

He made this statement while attending the ZGC Annual Conference held in Beijing, China.

About 1,000 participants from over 100 countries attended the conference, which aimed to promote technological and industrial innovation.

The Deputy Minister said he expects China’s support in developing ocean policies, introducing modern fishing vessel technology, monitoring marine resources using satellite technology, and strengthening deep-sea surveillance.

Rathna Gamage also highlighted the importance of strengthening student and technical exchange programs between research institutions of both countries to ensure the sustainable use of marine resources in the face of climate change.
