COLOMBO (News 1st) - Permanent reconstruction of roads and bridges damaged by Cyclone 'Ditwah' is set to commence today.
The Ministry of Transport and Highways says that nearly 820 damaged roads belonging to the Road Development Authority (RDA) will undergo permanent restoration under this initiative.
The first phase begins today in Gerandi-Ella Nuwara Eliya, targeting 45 specific locations.
The initial stage includes damaged infrastructure across the Sabaragamuwa, Uva, and Central Provinces.
The Ministry further noted that the project aims to restore all damaged roads to a higher standard than their previous condition within a two-year period.
The total estimated cost for the entire project exceeds Rs. 177 billion.
