COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Digital Economy says that information regarding suspects who have allegedly used QR codes illegally has been referred to the Computer Crimes Division through the Inspector General of Police.
Investigations have already been launched into 153 mobile phones in connection with the matter.
Advisor to the Ministry of Digital Economy, Sumudu Rathnayaka said that these irregularities were reported during the process of cancelling existing accounts to obtain new accounts to obtain the QR code.
Rathnayaka urged that it is strictly against the law to obtain QR codes using details of previous vehicle owners and necessary actions will be taken against those individuals.
So far over six million individuals have registered for the QR code under the fuel rationing system.
