Aviation Fuel Price Surge May Push Up Airfares

COLOMBO(News 1st); The price of aviation fuel in the country has been increased in line with the rise in aviation fuel prices in the global market.

Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Mayura Netthikumara, said the increase was necessary due to the military situation in the Middle East.

Accordingly, the price of a barrel of aviation fuel, which stood at US$93.57 on the 27th, has now increased to US$209.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, says steps will be taken to increase air ticket prices in the country in line with the rise in aviation fuel costs.
