Second Iranian Vessel Near Sri Lanka’s EEZ; Government Says Full Intervention Underway

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka says that it is aware of a second Iranian vessel located in the seas off Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Minister of Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the President, in his capacity as Minister of Defence, along with the Security Council and the government, are fully aware of the vessel’s presence and are making the necessary interventions to resolve the issue, minimize the loss of life, and protect regional peace.

He said the second Iranian vessel is not within Sri Lanka’s territorial waters but is positioned close to Sri Lanka’s maritime boundary in the Exclusive Economic Zone.

According to the Minister, Sri Lanka is taking maximum intervention with regard to the lives on board the vessel.

He stated that once the necessary measures are completed, more information will be presented to Parliament.
