Podi Lassi Detained For Seven Days After Return From India

COLOMBO (News 1st); The court has granted permission to detain and question organized criminal Janith Madushanka de Silva alias Podi lassie, who was brought to the island, for seven days.

This was after he was produced before the Baddegama Magistrate's Court this afternoon.

A team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department handed over Podi Lassie, who was brought from India, to the Galle District Crime Division this morning.

Podi lassi is currently facing 26 cases in court for various crimes committed against him since 2007.

Among them are 5 cases of murder, 13 cases of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm, and 8 cases of planning and aiding and abetting crimes including murder.

Podi Lassie, who had evaded the court and fled the country despite receiving an open warrant from the Balapitiya Court, was arrested in Mumbai, India, on January 16, 2025.

The police were able to bring the suspect to Sri Lanka this morning as a result of a recent request made by the Inspector General of Police to India to hand him over to the country.
