COLOMBO (News 1st); A new circular has been issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government containing regulations to formalize the maintenance of government vehicles, effective from the first of next month.
According to the circular, fuel efficiency must be tested annually, after every 25,000 kilometers of travel, or following an engine overhaul.
The circular further instructs that if a significant change in fuel consumption is detected a month after testing, the matter must be presented to the Staff Officer in charge of vehicles to determine if it stems from a mechanical defect or an act of corruption.
Additionally, the new guidelines include several regulations regarding the proper updating and inspection of vehicle logbooks.
Finally, it specifies that the driver is responsible for washing and maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle at least every two days or whenever necessary.
