COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court ordered that Daisy Forrest, the grandmother of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, be released from the case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The case was taken up before High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga.

During proceedings, the special psychiatric medical report that had been requested through the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer was submitted to court by Additional Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, appearing for the Attorney General.

The report had examined whether Forrest was mentally fit to face trial.

Presenting the findings, the Additional Solicitor General informed the court that a panel of specialist doctors had certified that Forrest did not possess the mental capacity required to participate in trial proceedings.

Accordingly, he notified the court that the second accused, Daisy Forrest, would be released from charges 1 and 3 in the indictment.

He further informed the court that an amended indictment would be filed, and the case would proceed only against the first accused, Yoshitha Rajapaksa.

After considering the submissions, the Judge ordered that Daisy Forrest be discharged from the charges against her.

The case had been filed by the Attorney General against Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Daisy Forrest, alleging that they had committed an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by unlawfully acquiring assets and property valued at approximately Rs. 73 million.
