COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has been named the world’s top destination for foreign retirees seeking a luxurious lifestyle at the lowest cost, according to the 2026 Annual Global Retirement Index released by International Living, one of the world’s leading magazines on travel and lifestyle.
In a dedicated section of the newly published report, International Living ranks Sri Lanka as the number-one country where foreigners can enjoy a comfortable and fulfilling retirement with minimal expenses.
According to the report, a foreign retiree can cover all essential needs in Sri Lanka, including accommodation, food, utilities, transport, and entertainment, on a monthly budget of approximately USD 1,000.
The magazine also highlights several factors that elevate Sri Lanka to the top of the global list, including its natural beauty, modern facilities available within the private healthcare sector, and the convenience and affordability of local transportation services.
Vietnam, where monthly retirement costs average around USD 1,800, has been ranked second, while Thailand takes third place with an estimated monthly cost of USD 2,000.
