COLOMBO (News 1st); A senior Labour Department officer has been remanded until the 5th of next month over allegations of assisting in the fraudulent withdrawal of funds from the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).
The suspect was ordered into remand custody after being produced before the Medawachchiya Magistrate’s Court.
He was arrested by officers of the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Central Crimes Investigations Bureau or the CCIB.
According to investigators, the senior officer is accused of submitting forged documents as genuine, certifying them as authentic, and committing criminal breach of trust.
The CID further informed the court that these forged documents had been used to unlawfully obtain EPF monies.
The 46-year-old suspect is a resident of Kekirawa.
Investigations into the EPF fraud ring are ongoing.
