COLOMBO (News 1st); Two individuals found guilty of preparing 26 forged deeds for the sale of two land plots have been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each.

The judgment was delivered today before Puttalam High Court Judge Nayomi Wickramasinghe.

Among those sentenced is Alex Nishantha Fernando, an attorney‑at‑law and a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna member of the Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha.

The second accused is a resident of Mahawewa.

In addition to the prison term, each of them was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 80,000.

They were further instructed to pay Rs. 800,000 in compensation to the complainant. The judge ordered that, if they fail to pay this compensation, they will face an additional 12 months of imprisonment.

The case was filed on charges of preparing fake deeds and selling two land plots measuring 3 acres, 2 roods, and 34 perches in the Waiikkal area, which belonged to the complainant.

The prosecution arose from an investigation conducted following a complaint received by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on June 7, 2011.
