Major Water Cut Hits Multiple Colombo Suburbs

COLOMBO (News 1st); A sudden failure in the main water supply line running from Ambatale to Dehiwala has resulted in an unexpected suspension of water supply to several key suburbs, including Moratuwa, authorities said.

According to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, the interruption affects multiple areas: Rawatawatta, Zoysapura, Ratmalana, Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala, Wellawatte, Pamankada, Mulleriyawa, and Kolonnawa, where supply has been fully suspended.

The Board further stated that Battaramulla will continue to receive water, but only under low-pressure conditions as a result of the system disruption.

Officials said that repair teams are currently working on restoring the pipeline.

The Water Board expects the supply to be fully restored before 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. Residents in the affected areas have been urged to use available water sparingly until the supply returns to normal.
