COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has assured maximum security for the highly anticipated India–Pakistan T20 World Cup match, with the government declaring that every measure has been taken to guarantee the safe and smooth conduct of one of world cricket’s biggest fixtures.

Minister (Dr) Nalinda Jayatissa, who also serves as the Cabinet Spokesperson, emphasized that this update was vital for cricket fans who have been anxiously awaiting clarity amid days of uncertainty.

He confirmed that the match, once at risk due to regional tensions, will now proceed in Colombo as planned.

Minister Jayatissa said that despite regional complications threatening to derail the match, Sri Lanka’s government intervened decisively over several days to help reach a resolution.

“All teams have been assured that security arrangements are fully handled by us. Maximum security will be provided,” the Minister said, calling on Sri Lankans to extend their full cooperation to security forces during the event.

A special traffic operation has already been prepared by the Police to handle the large numbers of fans expected to attend the match.

According to the Cabinet Spokesperson, multiple parties played a role in the breakthrough: the ICC, Sri Lanka’s cricket board, several diplomatic intermediaries, and direct involvement from Sri Lanka’s President, who held a phone discussion with the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Pakistan has officially acknowledged and expressed satisfaction with Sri Lanka’s mediation that paved the way for the match to go ahead.

“As a country, we are genuinely pleased that this match between the two nations can take place here in Sri Lanka,” the Minister noted, highlighting how cricket has become a tool for strengthening regional friendship and cooperation.
