Health Ministry Warns of Dengue Surge due to Southwest Monsoon

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health warns that dengue cases are likely to rise with the onset of the Southwest Monsoon.

Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said a nationwide dengue prevention and control campaign will be launched in response.

So far, 9,480 dengue cases have been reported across the country, with the Western Province recording the highest number.

More than half of all cases, 51.3 percent, have been reported from the Western Province.

Dengue cases have also been recorded in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Matara, Galle, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Ampara districts.
