COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake explored the possibility of Sri Lanka hosting the high-stakes Pakistan-India match during the upcoming T20 World Cup, in a telephone conversation.
According to a post on the official facebook page of Shehbaz Sharif, President Dissanayake personally requested the Prime Minister that the Pakistani cricket team play the Pakistan - India match in the on going T20 World Cup, in Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Sharif warmly welcomed the sentiments, expressing gratitude for Sri Lanka's unwavering support.
He specifically praised Sri Lanka's recent "unforgettable step" by proceeding with their tour of Pakistan without cancellation—a move that thrilled Pakistani cricket fans and revived international cricket in the nation after years of isolation due to security concerns.
"Sri Lanka supported strongly in difficult times and continued cricket in Pakistan," Sharif noted in the official statement posted on his Facebook page.
